Every journey …

Week 1 completed

I completed my 3rd run (ok, shuffle) of the week today and I’m feeling very pleased with myself. I’ve combined it with the eating plan so hopefully when I get on the scales on Monday I will be rewarded for my hard work.

Surprisingly, it’s been easier than I thought it would be. I’ve been busy so not had time to think about eating or rather not eating. As for the exercise, I’ve had no adverse effects as yet so no excuses not to get going with week 2 of the programme next week.

A new day, a new start!

OK. Having spent far too long being far too overweight I am going to do something about it. The only thing stopping me from succeeding is me! Well, I’ve given myself a stiff talking to and I’m going to do it!

Many years ago, 21 in fact, I went from a 30 a day smoker to a non-smoker. I gave up, I went cold turkey and have never had a puff since! If I can do that…

To help me along the way I have decided to follow the Couch to 5k programme. At this time I have no ambitions to take it further and run a marathon or anything. However, the programme is a great way to get out there and exercise.

I am also following the NHS Choices 12 week weight loss plan. I’ve done all the usual things in the past – Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Rosemary Conley –  and yes I’ve lost weight but it’s always come back plus some. Exercise and diets programmes are no good in isolation. For someone like me I need to change the way I think about food and exercise and right now my head is in a good place to do that.

They say that it takes 12 weeks for something to become a habit so here’s to the next 12 weeks!
